KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) yesterday directed relevant authorities to keep continued action against sellers and manufacturers of gutka.
A SHC bench heard a petition seeking ban on selling and manufacturing of gutka and ordered relevant authorities to continue crackdown on accused involved in this menace.
The provincial secretary health and other officials appeared before the bench. The court also ordered legislation regarding punishing those who sell and manufacture gutka.
The secretary of law department informed the court that a summary has already been forwarded to the committee for legislation so more time might be given.
The court approved the plea for more time and directed Sindh government to constitute a law regarding punishment for gutka sellers and manufacturers until 10th December.
However, the secretary health stated they had submitted a report of 20 hospitals during previous hearing. The petition was filed by Naseem Haider, seeking a complete ban on selling and manufacturing of gutka.
